Featured In Naples Daily News!

I was asked to contribute one of my favorite recipes by our local newspaper, The Naples Daily News, for an ongoing special they were running about local cooks. I had a photographer come out to my house to watch me prepare the recipe and take photos along the way back in December. The photographer was David Albers, and as well as making it a very enjoyable experience, he also was kind enough to share some food photography and lighting tips with me.

For this article I chose my Pasta alla Norcia recipe because it is a recipe from Umbria, and because I added a little of my own twist to it resulting in an easy recipe that has become a family favorite in my house.

The article came out on Wednesday, and although it was a little odd to see myself on the front page (of the Neapolitan section), I was happy to share my recipe and talk about my two recipe blogs and farmhouse Il Casale di Mele. You can read the entire article online at My Very Best: Home cook loves Italian cooking. Thanks Sheila Mesulam & David Albers!

  1. Congratualtions, Deborah. The article is wondeerful. I am going to try your recipe. Buona Pasqua to you and Lou.

  2. Ciao,
First let me say I enjoy both of your blogs. While I don’t cook as much as I used to, I love to “do” Italian and have taken classes on several trips to Italy.
However, what made me decide to write was finding out that you live in Naples, FL when not in Umbria. I have visited Naples often. My brother and his wife, one of my sisters and her husband live there. Also two of my nephews live in Naples, one with his wife and three children. Another nephew and family live in Ft. Myers. In fact my father also lived there from the late 70’s to when he died in the 90’s. I love Italy but also love to visit Naples and I know right now it is certainly warmer than here in Illinois!

  3. Actually Manuela, we live in Umbria and cream is used there in this very traditional pasta recipe. Also, when we lived in Milano, there were a number of cream based pasta sauces.

  4. CONGRATULATIONS, DEBORAH. VERY NICE PICTURE OF YOU. ALSO THE PASTA ALLA NORCIA RECIPE IS SO YUMMY. I MADE THIS FOR MY FAMILY AND THEY LOVED IT!! THE ARTICLE IS GREAT AND I’M SO HAPPY FOR YOU. TERRI

  5. Hi Deb – I made this recipe tonight and it was so good! I served it with a side of oven roasted asparagus and it made a really nice dinner for us. Just the right amount of chili flakes.
The small Ontario, Canada town where I live has a large Italian community and I am able to buy the most wonderful sausages from an elderly man who brought several original recipes with him from the old country. His sausages are the best!
Thank you for sharing yet again another lovely recipe.
