Wine Tasting With The Angelini Family 2017

top
Last Wednesday we had the privilege of hosting the Angelini family at our house for an Italian wine tasting dinner. We last hosted one of these wine dinners two years ago, but unfortunately we were out of town when they were in our area last year, so we never managed to fit into their schedule. The Angelini family have an excellent enoteca in Spello, about thirty minutes from our farmhouse in Umbria, and this family really know their wine as they are a family of seven generation of wine merchants. Since the tourist season slows down over the winter in Umbria, the family come to the United States for three months every year hosting wine tasting dinners from coast to coast.

Since we have limited seating in our home, we were only able to squeeze in twenty-four guests split between our indoor and outdoor tables, but I think everyone that came enjoyed both the food prepared by Daniela Angelini, as well as the many wines served with each course. The guests all arrived on schedule and enjoyed a glass of blush prosecco as they mingled and chatted. We then sat down, and worked our way through courses of bruschetta topped with award winning olive oil and fresh grated black truffles, plates of cured meats, Umbrian lentil soup, fresh pasta with shaved black Umbrian truffles, filet Mignon with vegetables, an Umbrian cheese selection served with aged balsamic vinegar, and award winning Panettone from Sicily.

The wines served matched the courses perfectly and included:

Champagne Rose di Noir Novelli
Sauvignon Blanc Fendi 2014
Brunello Reserve Collosorbo 2010
Barolo Rocca Reserve 2011
Nadel Ravonna Morino 2011
Sassicaia 2013
Sagrantino Caprai 2004
Kurni Oasi degli Angeli 2013
Rubacuori Dessert Wine
Grappa di Barolo Berta
