Contest Giveaway – Skeppshult Cast Iron “Swing” Pepper Mill & Salt Bowl from Pleasant Hill Grain {Retail Value Over $110 US}
I recently was sent a gorgeous Skeppshult Cast Iron Swing Pepper Mill and matching Salt Bowl from Pleasant Hill Grain, and they were kind enough to give me a second set to use as a contest giveaway to share with my blog readers. The Skeppshult Cast Iron “Swing” Pepper Mill and Salt Bowl are designed by Carl&Carl of Denmark and handmade in Sweden so have an elegant Scandinavian design along with the weight of cast iron. I always have small salt and pepper container sitting next to my stove to use as needed, and these modern Skeppshult Swing models would look great in any kitchen.
The pepper mill and salt bowl come with either a beech, oak, walnut or painted white lid, and the winner can choose their choice of lid. To keep the spices staying fresh, a rubber seal is fit into a groove on the inside of the lid. The unique design allows for easy use as a small notch is created into the rim of the bowl to make it very easy to remove the lid. One bowl nests right into the other with a lid that covers the top bowl, which allows you to store whole peppercorns in the top bowl and easily pour some into the bottom bowl each and every time you want to grind fresh pepper. The inside of the bottom bowl and outside of the top bowl are finished with a rough cast iron texture which is how the peppercorns are ground.

As far as why I’d want to win the pepper mill and salt bowl, who wouldn’t want to win it! I’m in the middle of restocking my kitchen with all new pots and pans, dishes (you can’t scrub the knife marks off the plates anymore) and my mixing bowls are chipped! I like to cook and spend a lot of time in the kitchen so I’ve decided to jazz up the whole room. The pepper mill and salt bowl would fit in beautifully.

I hope to use these so that I can help others eat healthier by scratch cooking and instructing the younger ones how important good nutrition in scratch cooking is for them. Then after a few years, I can pass them down knowing they will be put to good long use. Then the recipes are passed to the next generation, along with the equipment and knowledge. The Skeppshult Swing Pepper Mill and Salt Bowl are unique and different from other utility tools in my kitchen and would be a welcome addition. I like the ability to have manual control over the “grind” of the pepper. Both devices would provide utility. I look forward to using them either as a gift or purchase.

I would love to win this because I am so sick of buying what I think is quality pepper mills and after using only a couple of months they are broke and time to buy another. In all fairness I have to say I only use milled pepper. The salt bowl would be nice to now I use a pottery crock for the kosher salt.

I am intrigued by the craftsmanship and versatility of this product. I like the design. I am a avid fan of cooking “from scratch” and I think this would make a great addition to my kitchen.
I recently saw these and loved the look of them; just what I’m looking for to replace my too small and well worn salt box, and having the ability to hand grind peppercorns to suit their use is an answered prayer! Grinding your own spices is the way to go for great flavor. Combine it with cast iron (function and longevity of usefulness), and you’ve got yourself a winner. Plus, this particular item is a great conversation piece when there are many cooks in the kitchen or on the table at a dinner party.

Swedish dishes are some of the most aesthetically striking and well-designed. As somebody who uses a lot of spices in my meals, these dishes would be very value additive.

I like be to cook with fresh ground pepper, salt and other spices. I am intrigued by the fact that they are cast iron and how they grind pepper and other spices. They look very durable. I would put these on my table and use for serving as well.
While I do like to grind my pepper when working with a recipe that requires more then a few twists I like to prepare and have the salt and pepper ready in a clean container. These would keep the spices clean especially when working with raw meats and chicken.
