Friday Photos ~ October 26th, 2018 ~ Umbria & Le Marche

It has been a busy week here in Umbria. Last weekend we visited two fall festivals, one in Trevi and one in Pietralunga. The Trevi festival is celebrated every fall in honor of sedano nero or black celery and sausages. The celery isn’t really black, but is very dark green and has a powerful celery flavor. This type of celery can only be grown in a small area surrounding Trevi. The festival in Pietralunga is for truffles and potatoes. There are many truffle companies in this area who sell all of their truffle products along with bags of locally grown potatoes. Of course, we bought some celery and a selection of truffle products to bring home with us when we leave Umbria in three weeks.

We completed the second part of our olive harvest yesterday and today but took the day off on Wednesday to head to Le Marche to do a little shopping in the outlet stores in that region. Of course, since we were so close to the sea, we stopped off to enjoy a leisurely seafood lunch after hitting a few outlet stores before we headed back to Umbria.

They even had truffle potato chips which were delicious!

The beaches in Le Marche were deserted but so clean.

  1. Thank you for the great pics.  So nice to see the food so beautifully presented and in reasonable sized servings!

  2. Thank you for sharing–I love coming along on your travels, and they have inspired some of my own! It looks like you are just south or just north of Monte Conero. We loved hiking down to the beach at Sirolo.

I’ve also added celery pesto to my to-do list.
